Innovative Materials
Light-responsive surfaces, finishes and composites, sourced and prototyped in-house for projects that want something new.
Overview
Materials that change with the light
Materials that change with the light
Some projects call for a surface that does something light alone cannot. We research and prototype materials — translucent stone, layered glass, perforated and woven metal, light-transmitting composites and textured finishes — that diffuse, glow, shadow or shift as illumination moves across them.
From sample to specification
We source from trusted suppliers and our own workshop, building physical samples and lit mock-ups so designers can judge a material in real conditions before committing. Performance, durability and fire and safety compliance are assessed alongside the look.
Integrated with the lighting design
Because we design the light and the material together, the two are resolved as one detail — backlighting, edge-lighting and concealed sources matched precisely to the surface they reveal.
What's included
Scope of the engagement
- Material research aligned to the design intent
- Sourcing of specialist and light-responsive finishes
- Physical samples and illuminated mock-ups
- Durability, performance and compliance assessment
- Integration of light source with surface detailing
- Specification and supply coordination
The process
Three steps from brief to delivery
Define the effect
We agree the visual and tactile result you are after and the conditions the material must perform in.
Source & prototype
We gather options, build lit samples and refine the combination of material and light source with you.
Specify & supply
We document the chosen material and detailing and coordinate supply through to installation.
